Metabolism Boosters

I have definitely done a lot of "metabolism boosting" research since I've turned 30. I also started Atkins several months ago so I had been searching for ways to give this old body a little kick!

Some of us were blessed with amazingly fast metabolic rates, others, not so much. My metabolism, like most people, was fast when I was a teen and has slowed with age. Sigh... Well the good thing is that there are definitely things that can give it a boost! Here are a few that I have found to work for me.

Hydrate: It’s true what they say, drink at least 6-8 glasses a day. Water helps the liver function fully and allows your body to easily eliminate waste.

Green Tea: this drink is loaded with antioxidants and has low levels of caffeine. Studies show that drinking green tea daily can boost metabolism and oxidize fat. I try to drink about 3 cups a day.

Spice it up: some spices can actually heat up your body while you eat which believe it or not can increase your metabolism by as much as 50 percent. Ginger, chili pepper and especially cayenne can boost the flavor of your meal and your metabolism.

Eat more: ok maybe not more but more often. When you go longer than 4-6 hours between meals your metabolism actually slows down preparing your body for starvation mode. Your body basically goes Ito survival mode - essentially increasing the potential for weight gain.

Pump some iron: Muscle burns like 3 times more calories than fat even while you are lounging watching TV. 'nuff said.
